Democrats Released New Giuliani Evidence Sent Articles to the Senate and Named Impeachment Managers

“Speak softly and carry a bit stick!” – Teddy Roosevelt

In light of the Trump impeachment proceedings, the turmoil of American politics has gone from rain storm to an F5 tornado.  Over the past twenty four hours the “Democrats Released New Giuliani Evidence Sent Articles to the Senate and Named Impeachment Managers,” which sent the self-proclaimed “Big Brain” President Donald John Trump into another nonsensical twitter rant. This most recent rant is out of fear of being impeached.  This, as usual is in sharp contradiction to “The Brain” who is boasting “Tell the Democrats to bring it on.  I welcome being impeached.” Such a dichotomy of positions from a single individual is indicative of a person suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD).  Facing the possibility of having to deal with the behavior of an insane president, the Democrats under the wisdom and leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi have taken a page from the book of former Republican President and war hero, President Teddy Roosevelt. “Speak softly and carry a bit stick!” In essence, Pelosi and her Party appear to be more Republican than the Republicans themselves.

That big stick that the Democrats are wielding is called evidence.  And, the Democrats have a lot of it. In fact, it’s more like a ton.  Aside from the mountains of evidence collected during the House investigations, most recently, Lev Parnas a Giuliani associate that has been documented as working for the president during the onset of the Ukraine scandal has turned over new evidence to the House.  That evidence is in the form of two flash drives which include taped telephone conversations between Parnas and Giuliani.  One particular damning piece of evidence is a letter from Rudy Giuliani to the Ukrainian President stating that he was representing Trump in a personal capacity.  This position established by Giuliani on behalf of Trump is proof that Trump’s interest in Ukraine was to gain a personal benefit and not to do the nation’s business.

Included with the letter from Giuliani, Lev Parnas’ two flash drives contained personal notes from Parnas on the letterhead of the Ritz Carlton in Vienna. This evidence was formally transmitted from Chairman Schiff of the House Intelligence Committee to Jerry Nadler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee on January 14, 2020.  Included with the letter is an inventory of the evidence provided on the flash drives.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020 the House passed a resolution to send the impeachment articles to the Senate.  That afternoon, Nancy Pelosi signed the articles before accompanying the Impeachment Managers who promptly delivered the articles to the Senate. After receiving the articles, Mitch McConnell placed several resolutions dealing with the disposition of the articles before the Senate. They all passed unanimously. One of the resolutions set the trial date for next Tuesday, January 21st. On tomorrow, the House Impeachment Managers will read the articles on the Senate floor.

During a morning press conference, Speaker Pelosi announced the House Impeachment Managers.

Adam B. Schiff, Lead manager – Chairman, House Intelligence Committee Chairman

Schiff has been a member of the House since 2001 and represents a California district that is east of Los Angeles.  He is in his tenth term.  During the House impeached investigations, he coordinated the efforts of the four committees responsible for investigating the president.  Under his leadership, the final impeachment investigation report was prepared which resulted in the impeachment of the president.

Schiff served as a law clerk for Judge William Matthew Byrne Jr. of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. From 1987 to 1993, Schiff served as an Assistant United States Attorney for that same district.  While serving in this position, Schiff prosecuted the case against a former FBI agent who was convicted of spying for the Soviet Union. The spy, Richard Miller was convicted in a third trial.

Jerrold Lewis Nadler – Chairman, House Judiciary Committee

Jerrold Nadler is in his 15th term and represents New York’s 10th congressional district.  Nadler was one of the first Democrats to call for the impeachment of trump and leads the committee traditionally in charge of impeachment. He helped draft the two articles of impeachment and then successfully debated and passed them out of his committee.  The full House voted on and approved the articles.

Zoe Lofgren – Chairman, House Committee on House Administration

Zoe Lofgren has been in Congress since 1994 and currently is in her 13th term representing California’s 19th district.  She is the most experienced House member in reference to impeachment and worked as a House Judiciary Committee staffer for Congressman Don Edwards when the articles of impeachment against President Richard Nixon were drafted.  She was a member of the Judiciary during the Clinton Impeachment. During her committee’s debates about the Trump impeachment, she countered an argument made by Republicans that Trump needed to be impeached for the violation of criminal laws as was Clinton. Her retort made national headlines. She argued that what Trump did was more serious that Clinton’s sexual improprieties with a White House staffer:

“Somehow lying about a sexual affair is an abuse of presidential power, but the misuse of presidential power to get a benefit somehow doesn’t matter?”

Hakeem Jeffries – Chairman, House Democratic Caucus

Congressman Jeffries has been representing New York’s 8th congressional district since his election to Congress in 2012.  Prior to beginning his congressional service in January of 2013, he was a corporate lawyer.  He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and is 5th in the House leadership.  He clerked for a federal judge in New York.  During the full House impeachment debate, he had this to say:

“There are some who cynically argue that the impeachment of this president will further divide an already fractured union. But there is a difference between division and clarification. Slavery once divided the nation, but emancipation rose up to clarify that all men are created equally. Suffrage once divided the nation, but women rose up to clarify that all voices must be heard in our democracy. Jim Crow once divided the nation, but civil rights champions rose up to clarify that all are entitled to equal protection under the law. There is a difference between division and clarification.”

Val Demings – Member of House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees

Val Demings has served as the Congresswoman for Florida’s 10th congressional district since 2017.  She is the former Chief of the Orlando Police Department.  Speaker Pelosi cited her law enforcement background as a strength.  And, as a member of both the Judiciary and Intelligence committees she has a unique perspective on the crimes committed by Trump.  During impeachment debated Congresswoman’s speech was memorable:

“I come before you tonight as an African American female. I come before you tonight as a descendant of slaves. Slaves who knew they would not make it but dreamed and prayed that one day I would make it. I come before you tonight proclaiming that in spite of America’s complicated history, my faith is in the Constitution.”

Jason Crow – Member House Armed Services Committee

Jason crow is an American lawyer, veteran, and a member of the United States House of Representatives for Colorado’s 6th congressional district.  He is a former U.S. Army Ranger and officer.  He served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.  According to the Almanac of American Politics, he “conducted internal investigations nationwide, responded to emergency events and handled a wide-range of government inquiries.”

Congressman Crow despite being a freshman played a huge role in persuading Speaker Pelosi to authorize the impeachment inquiry. In a Washington Post op-ed, he was one of several House freshmen calling Trump’s actions on Ukraine impeachable. The op-ed was a big factor in the significant momentum shift within the Democratic caucus that led to the impeachment investigation.

Sylvia Garcia – Member, House Judiciary Committee

Congresswoman Garcia represents a congressional district in Houston, Texas.  She was a municipal judge, the first woman and Latina elected to the Harris County Commissioner’s Court, and was a state senator from 2013 to 2019.  In 2018, she and fellow Congresswoman Veronica Escobar became the first Latinas elected to Congress from Texas.

During the impeachment investigations, she appeared on Fox news in defense of the Democrat’s impeachment efforts.  During her interviews she was compelling:

“I did not come to Congress to impeach the president.  I did not come to Congress to have to sit in these types of hearings.  I’m just a country kid from South Texas who believes in the American Dream and believes in our democracy and the Constitution.”

The team of Impeachment Managers working on behalf of the House of Representatives is a very highly qualified group of professionals.  They have a great deal of experience as litigators, judges and investigators.  Also, they are a diverse cross-section of the ethnically diverse American population which is very unlike the Republican’s whose only African American representative in Congress has announced his resignation leaving the Republican without a single ethnic minority in the House or the Senate.

Adding to the strength of the impeachment team is new evidence provided by Rudy Giuliani associate and Trump employee, Lev Parnas.  According to Parnas who is under federal indictment for illegal campaign contributions to a Trump campaign super PAC, President Trump knew everything and participated in the conspiracy to extort the Ukrainian President into manufacture evidence against the biggest threat to Trump’s re-election, Joe Biden.  Parnas appeared in an MSNBC, Rachel Maddow special report.  Parnas was interviewed in his attorney’s office by Maddow.  The interview provided new evidence about who participated in the Ukrainian scandal and to what extent President Trump played a role.  Below are excerpts from the special.

When Maddow inquired about the President’s role in the conspiracy, Parnas replied:

“President Trump knew exactly what was going on.  The President knew all on my movements at all times.  I did nothing without his consent…. I was on the ground doing their work.”

Parnas explained to Maddow, that he was tasked by Giuliani to put the pressure on Zelenski to announce investigations into Joe Biden.

“It was all about the Biden’s, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden.”

“Basically the message that I gave was a very harsh message, to give it to him in a harsh way that aid, all aid would be withheld…until the announcement of the Biden investigation.”

Parnas when asked by Maddow confirmed the fact that along with Rick Perry and Gordon Sondland, Vice President Mike Pence and Attorney General William Barr were a part of the president’s conspiracy to extort the President of Ukraine.  On the matter, Mr. Parnas had this to say:

“Unless he announced the investigation into Biden no one would be coming to the inauguration.”

“Trump called up and said that Pence would not go there, to the inauguration.”

“Attorney General William Barr was on the team. Mr. Barr knew everything.”

Parnas also confirmed that Devin Nunes, Ranking Member on the House Intelligence Committee during the Trump impeachment investigation was also a part of the conspiracy.

“He was involved in getting the information from Ukraine.  He knew what was going on.  He knew who I am.”

When asked by Maddow if National Security Advisor John Bolton knew of the conspiracy, Parnas confirmed that Bolton was aware of the plan.

“Bolton knew everything….100%”

Supporting documentation for the Parnas/Maddow interview can be found in the following document which includes personal hand written notes made by Parnas, emails and text messages between Giuliani and Parnas. The last page of the document is a communiqué between the President’s attorney Jay Sekulow and former Trump attorney from the Mueller Investigation, John Dowd.  In the communiqué, Sekulow confirms to Dowd that President Trump authorized Dowd to represent Lev Parnas in his legal battled with the Southern District of New York.  On several occasions Trump has denied to the media ever knowing Parnas.
