“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” These are the words of Edmund Burke, 18th century Irish political philosopher and statesman who is considered to be the father of modern conservatism. Conservatism is supposed to be the foundation of the republican party, not radical partisanship. Being a republican or conservative is not a prerequisite to being a member of an evil empire. In fact, Ronald Reagan denounced the Soviet Union as our biggest threat to democracy and proclaimed it to be the evil empire in his famous speech of March 8, 1983. So in essence, Reagan established the republican party as protectors of the realm and America’s guardian against the evil empires of the world, in particular Russia.
Is the current leader of Reagan’s party, Donald Trump, continuing his legacy? Is the party that considers Reagan to be its greatest leader protecting us from the evil empire? Is the republican leadership asleep at the wheel, have they just stopped caring or are they too afraid of special interest to uphold their oath to “protect the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic”? These are the questions that all American citizens, republican, libertarian, independent, green party, democrat, conservative or progressive alike must find answers to. If we don’t find the answers and turn things around, then as evidenced by the current behavior of our country and its leadership we will become what Ronald Reagan, our founding fathers and civil rights icons such as Martin Luther King Jr. feared most, an evil empire.
Just what is an evil empire? An evil empire is a technologically advanced nation, typically ruled by an evil emperor or empress, that aims to control the world or conquer some specific group. Evil empires are characterized by a heavy use of technology and mechanization, refusing to coexist with nature and destroying or exploiting it instead. When you put this definition and its characteristics in context to our country’s current political climate and this administration’s policies, there is a strong correlation and you must ask the question, have we become Ronald Reagan’s most feared nightmare? And, is the current government a threat to our democracy?
President Reagan confronted Russia and said “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall!” On a national stage in Helsinki, Donald Trump in stark contrast to Reagan, bent a knee and kissed the ring of one of Gorbachev’s successors, Vladimir Putin. Trump by his own admissions has proclaimed the word of Putin over his own intelligence community and law enforcement institutions. Trump has also stated “build the wall or I will shut down the government!” Are these the words of an American President or those of an evil emperor?
The behavior exhibited by our current president which includes innumerable lies, attacks on the constitution, intelligence and law enforcement institutions, free press, contempt for our allies and pathological narcissism is more indicative of an evil emperor than that of an elected leader of the free world. Like a tyrant ruling an evil empire, his ongoing use of social media and Fox television are technological attacks designed to divide and conquer the American people. The attack by Putin upon our election system is a further technological attack on our freedom by an admitted ally of this president. This is a coordinated, pervasive attempt to confuse, divide and control the American people by stripping us of our freedoms guaranteed by constitutionally mandated elections.
This president, in dereliction to his duty has called Russia’s attack on our election system a hoax and has refused to develop a plan to protect our elections from future attacks. On August 1st of this year senate republicans (Bob Corker excluded) voted down a $250 million dollar appropriations bill amendment to fund increased security needed to protect our 2018 midterm elections. This appears to be more supportive of Putin’s agenda than of the American people.
Trump’s dismantling of the environmental protection agency and refusal to enforce bi-partisan legislation that for decades has protected our health, ecology and children from harm is characteristic of the Chinese and Russian governments. He is supported by his party which has denounced science and all of its evidence that proves climate change is destroying our very future. Does this sound like America or Ronald Reagan’s feared evil empire?
So what can you do to reverse this assimilation of America into an evil empire? Don’t place blame. Start by putting aside partisan politics and placing the constitution squarely in the middle of your life right next to God and family. The constitution by design is non-partisan. It provides checks and balances against abuses of power by any one party, individual or want-to-be dictator. Embrace your fellow citizens of all ethnicities, religions, ages, political parties and creeds. Engage in honest, respectful discourse about the things that are having a negative impact upon America’s greater good which is based upon the constitution.
We’ve all been taught to only vote for someone that represents our interest. I’m here to tell you that you have been lied to. Malcolm X put it very eloquently, “Oh, I say and I say it again, ya been had! Ya been took! Ya been hoodwinked! Bamboozled.” If you vote only for your interest then you will never really have what you voted for. History is replete with examples of selfish interest that don’t withstand the test of time or achieve a greater good. Selfish interest will never lead to a free and open society. Selfish interest is partisan, has led to the creation of evil empires such as Nazi Germany, and nearly every armed conflict throughout human existence.
The constitution is this country’s guide to a greater good and your brighter future. It is not partisan and guarantees government of the people, by the people, for the people which will provide a common defense, insure domestic tranquility, equal rights for all, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It places the greater good of all mankind above all else.
You owe it to yourself, your family, descendants and community to own a constitution. It is free to download. Learn it and use its guiding principles to engender a prosperous future through open and honest dialogue with anyone that will listen. Openly express your opinions. Listen to and respect the opinions of others and act upon the knowledge that you gain from these discussions by voting in every election possible. Yes millennials, to make a difference in society, you must vote in every election. America was designed for free and open debate and it is your responsibility to guard it against all enemies foreign and domestic. It is not the responsibility of democrats, Reagan, Trump’s republican party or that of any other political party. It is yours! Remember, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

The old Soviet Union under Gorbachev was a country undergoing economic strife and social unrest. The KGB was by our standards of justice, a private mafia working on behalf of the government. Reagan saw this and the possible geopolitical world future if something was not done. Since Gorbachev, Putin has accelerated Russia’s fall into a dictatorship. America, right now is going through events that are similar to those that set the early stage for Gorbachev’s particular Soviet climate. Our current society also mirrors events of Germany just prior to the Nazi Party taking control of the government. These are things that reflect the early development of a dictatorship or what is referred to in pop culture as an Evil Empire. This is what Ronald Reagan fought against. His statement to Gorbachev “tear down this wall” was about Russia ending its slide towards a dictatorship and joining the free world. Under this president we are becoming what Reagan feared.
I figure that you might be trying to play it safe with this post, but please know that the jucier lines of thinking will promote healthy dialogue when argued respectfully..and it IS your site not a democracy- allow your content rule here!
