Part 1 – Opening your eyes and understanding the question
America! America! God shed his grace on thee and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea. These are the last four lines from America the beautiful, words by Katharine Lee Bates with melody by Samuel Ward. It was originally published in 1895 as a poem under the title of “America.” This song is taught to elementary school children throughout our great nation. It seeds the American dream, builds patriotism and is a shining example of true American values. Many believe it should be our National Anthem. It is a beautiful song, worthy of its fame and should be representative of our great nation. “Should be”!
To put these words into context we first have to define beautiful. Beautiful is defined as attractive, pretty, handsome, alluring and derived from the root word beauty. Just look around you. Do you see an America that has been crowned by good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea? Is this America beautiful? No! Hell no! America today is hateful, dishonorable, dishonest, anti-democratic in thought, ruled by one party that controls all branches of government, steals from the poor to give to the rich, places corporate interest above human interest, nationalistic, totalitarian, imperialistic, racist, sexist, homophobic, abuses the poor, children and the elderly via current political doctrines and cultist in nature. Just face it, America is not beautiful. She is ugly, ugly very ugly. And, that is putting it mildly.
Please understand, this is not about being unAmerican, anti-patriotic or partisan politics. This is about just the opposite. This is about preserving “America the Beautiful”. And, to do that we, all of us have to see things the way that they truly are. We have to be clear eyed to see through the proverbial smoke and mirrors.
Benito Mussolini, Adolph Hitler’s most avid ally believed that among other things, fascism is a marriage of corporate and government interest. So, is America fascist? Although these waters appear to be murky and to some they sound wildly insane and even impossible, let’s look at some of the core tenets of fascism. Nationalism, totalitarianism, persecution, anti-democratic thought, personality cult, direct action, corporate control of government, one-party state, lack of free press, and finally dictatorship.
At first glance these tenets do not appear to be present in America. However, if we look below the surface of the murky waters that is America today and examine our current political climate, the evidence is glaring. I will be direct and very brief.
Nationalism, “America First”, totalitarianism (President Trump is right, the world is all wrong), persecution (Trump’s ideology towards the media, gays and Muslims aka the new Jews), anti-democratic thought (Donald Trump “I’m the only one that maters”), personality cult (Donald Trump and the extreme right), personality cult (if one perceives the US congress as a single entity, it is a sentient being with a personality that worships the “Almighty Dollar” ), direct action (the firing of the FBI director in furtherance of a conspiracy with a foreign government to thwart our democratic process), corporate control of government (tax bills that benefit all corporations over citizens, laws that benefit less than one tenth of one percent of the population while ignoring the will of the voters), one-party state (a congress that constructs bills in secret meetings behind closed doors, in bathrooms, passed without public hearings or debate nor input from the minority party, a congress that rules over the people as opposed to representing the will of the people), lack of free press (limitless attacks on the media from the office of the president), DICTATORSHIP ( Donald Trump, “I’m the only one that matters” My generals”, presidential contempt for the first amendment and an executive branch, judiciary branch and legislative branch ruled by one party to further the will of one ruler, that ruler being corporate America) all of these are tenets of banana republics, Nazism and last but not least fascism.
Upon reading this, one may think that this is an op-ed article. Is it? Or is it just acute observation? Ask yourself. Have you observed the same things? Are people that you know talking about these things? If so, then now you must revisit the question. Right now, at this very instant, is America beautiful or is America fascist? You be the judge.
In the tradition and spirit of our founding fathers who are turning over in their graves, get off your butt and do something about it. You must do it now. Right Now!
