Impeachment Hearings: Is America Stuck On Stupid?

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.” – Albert Einstein

By Glen Reaux

The Democrats have ended the impeachment hearings for the time being and Congress has gone home for Thanksgiving break.  This has left Americans with nearly two weeks to mull over, the evidence that has been presented by the Dems and compare that to the lack of a denial from the Republicans that President, Donald J. Trump committed impeachable offenses.  When Congress returns from holiday, its members will ask the question, on the topic of “Impeachment Hearings: Are Americans Stuck On Stupid?”  This answer is equally as important to both and Democrats and Republicans alike.  Right now, our country is in jeopardy from existential threats from outside our borders and within.  And, the answer to that question will determine the future of our democracy. The Republicans are counting on you to be very stupid.  They are working very hard to make you believe that “what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.”  While all eyes are focused on the mountains of evidence that has proven the president’s guilt, by not denying the facts or the president’s actions, Republicans are banking that you will prove right another theory of the greatest physicist of the 20th century. On humanity, this is the Einstein Principle:

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”  Albert Einstein

That’s right.  Republicans are banking on the fact that they think that you are either too stupid or complacent to care about your liberties and freedoms.  Is it true!  You can answer that question by looking in the mirror and asking yourself:

  1. Am I stupid or too complacent to care about my freedom?
  2. Am I going to let someone take away my constitutional guarantee to a free and fair election?”
  3. Am I going to let the President use America’s enemies to destroy this country”
  4. Am I going to let someone doom my children to a life of struggle?
  5. Am I going to let Trump become a dictator?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then you might as well take out one of the 393 million guns that are in America, at least one of which is in your possession (if not go buy one) put it to your head and pull the trigger.  Because, trust me, if you don’t do it, Trump and the Republicans will.  That’s what losing the right to free and fair elections is a death sentence.  Without your freedom, the American way of life that we have all come to know and love, that your sons and daughters have grown up in is dead.  Anytime a foreign power such as China or Russia is asked to interfere in our elections by an American president and he gets away with it, that’s the same as you putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger.

This is what Donald Trump has done more than a dozen times on national television and you know it.  Ask yourself what you would do if you were standing in line at the polls waiting to vote and a Russian soldier walked up to you, grabbed you by the arm, dragged you over to a voting booth and made you vote for Vladimir Putin.  This is exactly what Trump, the Republicans and Putin are doing to you.  So here is another question; standing in the voting booth with this guy’s hand on your arm, do you let him make you vote for his candidate or do you beat the crap out of him and vote your conscious? Be honest with yourself.

There is a lot of noise out there around the impeachment inquiry and it can be hard to follow the testimony of all of the witnesses.  Over two thousand pages of sworn testimony have been released to the public.  So, let me help by making this easy for you to make up your mind.  Ukraine has recently been extorted by Trump to interfere in our elections.  Ukrainian President Zelensky actually agreed to investigate Trump’s political opponent Joe Biden and his son Hunter.  Republican Senators have been singing these two tunes; “no quid pro qou” and “Zelensky never made the announcement or did any investigations.”

Point of fact, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy did agree to appear on CNN and make the announcement demanded by Trump, that he would investigate the Bidens.  This is evidenced in the testimony of Trump-appointed Ambassador William Taylor:

“My fear at the time was that since Ambassador Sondland had told me President Zelensky already agreed to do a CNN interview, President Zelensky would make a statement regarding ‘investigations’ that would have played into domestic U.S. politics,”

Bill Taylor Testimony

In response to the claims by Trump and Republican lawmakers that there was no “quid pro quo,” another Trump appointee, European Ambassador Gary Sondland testified to congress that there was a quid pro quo.

“Quid pro quo” as defined by the law means “something for something.”  The “quid pro quo” that is involved with this impeachment proceeding is a necessary element for the crimes of extortion and bribery.  Bribery is an impeachable offense as described in the constitution.  Since 2014, Ukraine has been fighting a war for its very existence.  Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and since then has occupied the Crimean peninsula.  Currently, Russian backed forces are fighting to annex an area of eastern Ukraine.  To put in plainly, the Ukrainian President is doing everything possible, including submitting to extortion to save his country. President Trump was withholding funds approved by Congress for Ukraine’s defense against Russia and would only release the funds if Zelenskyy agreed to investigate Biden for Trump.  This is the “something for something.”

Listening to the arguments of the Republicans and Democrats can become confusing.  So again, let’s put this crime of extortion into a simple context.  Since the survival of Ukraine and the death of thousands of its soldiers and citizens were at stake, Zelenskyy gave in to Trump.  Basically, Trump held a gun to Zelenskyy’s head and told him do what I want or your people and country dies.  Mobsters do this all day everyday all around the world.  But, when an American president does this to another country, he will not stop there.  He will do it to you.  And, Trump and the Republicans in Congress have been doing it to you since Trump in 2016, signaled Russia to interfere in our national elections.

In the Shakespearean play Hamlet, Act III, Scene I appear to have some relevance to the impeachment hearings: “To be, or not to be: That is the question!” Placing this question in context to how Americans should view the impeachment of Trump and the opinions that Republican’s hold of the American people looks like this.  “To be or not to be stuck on stupid: that is the question!”  If you let the Republicans and Trump get away with telling you “what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening” when you are evaluating the evidence presented by the impeachment hearings, then the answer to that question is yes. You are “stuck on stupid” and you deserve to have your freedoms and liberties taken from you.  Rest assured, the three people in the picture below will do it to you.

William Barr, Donald Trump, Lindsey Graham

Just how stuck on stupid do Republican lawmakers want you to be?  How about, so stupid that you ignore Trump’s own words which are found in the transcript memo released by the White House?

  1. “I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike. .. I guess you have one of your wealthy people… The server, they say Ukraine has it There are a lot of things that went on, the whole situation ..” (Crowdstrike is a cybersecurity firm that worked for the Clinton campaign during the 2016 election)
  2. Giuliani is a highly respected man. He was the mayor of New York City, a great mayor, and I would like him to call you. I will ask him to call you along with the Attorney General. Rudy very much knows what’s happening and he is a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great. The former ambassador from the United States, the woman, was bad news and the people she was dealing with in the Ukraine were bad news so I just want to let you know that. The other thing, There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it … It sounds horrible to me.”

Despite the mountains of evidence that has been discovered through the impeachment investigations, the Republicans attempts to obstruct the investigations and their propaganda campaign to confuse the American public and protect the president, their complicity in Trump’s crimes has not been revealed to the public.  It has recently been revealed that members of the Republican House leadership, in particular, Devin Nunes actually traveled to Europe in an attempt to obstruct the Mueller investigation.

On November 20, 2019, The Daily Beast published the article “Lev Parnas Helped Devin Nunes Investigations” {2}  Devin Nunes is currently the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee which is spearheading the impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump.  Lev Parnas is the Rudy Giuliani associate that refused to comply with a congressional subpoena requiring him to testify in the impeachment inquiries.  Parnas was arrested on October 10th as Washington’s Dulles airport attempting to leave the country with one-way tickets to Europe.  Parnas and Fruman another Giuliani associate were charged with illegally funneling money into Trump’s official campaign Super PAC along with donations to other Republican lawmakers.  Parnas contributed $325,000 to the Trump Super PAC, America First Action.  Parnas and Fruman had been served with congressional subpoenas just days before the arrest.  They announced through their attorney, that they would testify before congress and demanded by the subpoenas.  Upon arrest, Parnas claimed executive privilege because he was working for President Trump through Giuliani as an interpreter.  After Trump denied knowing him, he agreed to testify before Congress.  The details surrounding his testimony are yet to be worked out with the FBI.  Parnas is a central figure in the extortion plot perpetrated on Ukraine by Trump and Giuliani.  He was also a point man in the smear campaign against American Ambassador to Ukraine, Maria Yovanovitch.

According to Congressional records, Nunes traveled to Europe from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, 2018, and was accompanied by three aides—Harvey, Scott Glabe, and George Pappas.  The trip cost U.S. taxpayers $63,000.  Nunes traveled to Europe was an attempt to discredit the Mueller investigation into Trump and Russian interference into the 2016 elections.  He was working to investigate the origins of Mueller’s probe into Russian election meddling.  Considering Nunes’ bias towards Trump and his attempts to obstruct the Russia Probe, and his past business dealings with Lev Parnas, he should recuse himself from the impeachment proceedings.

So a new question rises to the surface of the chaos and impeachment noise.  “How do you avoid being stuck on stupid?”  The answer is easy:

  1. Don’t drink the Kool-aid.
  2. Allow yourself to believe the things that you see, read and hear that make sense to you.

If you see Trump on TV telling China to investigate his political opponents, believe him.  When you read the transcript of the July 25th call between Trump and Zelenskyy, where Trump commits the crimes of extortion and bribery, believe what your eyes are showing you.  When you hear and watch Gordon Sondland admit to Congress that there was a quid pro quo, believe him. The FBI indicted Parnas and Fruman for illegal campaign contributions of $325,000 to the Trump Super PAC, believe it because the FBI is here to protect your liberties and freedom.  When you watch Trump administration officials on the news and they provide evidence that Trump committed crimes, believe them.  They are his people. They work for and were appointed by Trump and have no reason to lie.  When you watch Republican lawmakers on TV and they don’t deny Trump crimes, know that the reason is because he did them.

So, what is the answer to “how do you avoid being stuck on stupid?”

  1. Believe your eyes and ears and use your God-given common sense.
  2. Most importantly, don’t let anyone tell you that when a sitting president invites or extorts foreign governments to interfere in your 2020 elections so that he can stay in power is okay.
  3.  Listen to former Trump advisor on Russia Fiona Hill
